Hidden Gems Found Among Us

Hello Friends,

Have you ever felt a tad bit off?  Just having one of those mornings when you know that you are all right, however just can’t shake that feeling? Then out of the blue, your phone alerts notifying you that you have a new Facebook Message. It’s from someone who became very dear to our family while Daddy spent his 9 week ordeal in the VA Hospital before the series of in and out stays over the course of the year and half to follow. We shall call her *A* and protect her identity in case she wishes not to be known.  *A* was one of Daddy’s nurses at the hospital and quickly became much more. She would joke around with Daddy, and it became a joke for her to toss socks from the doorway into the room each day. Mom and Daddy got to know *A* and learned she was a single mother, raising her son alone, after her husband’s passing. Now *A* and I got along however we never really clicked until birthdays came up one day. I jokingly said that September is the best month because my birthday fell then. *A* said hers was too. So of course, I asked what day, and was surprised when we both realized we shared the same birthday. She is just a few years older than me. After that, *A* and I became very close. Every day she would fill us in on her and her son’s life. and we would tell her ours. Even after Daddy was released, she and I kept in touch, and Mom and I would go up to say hi on days Daddy had a procedure in another part of the campus. After all. *A* was now family. She is the type of nurse that truly cares for her patients, and does more than just check on their well being. She makes sure that they are as confortable as possible, and that their stay uder her care is as well as possibly can be.  (As well any family that may be staying or visiting the patient.)

The day Mom and I went up to give *A* the heart breaking news about Daddy’s passing, she was working on her usual unit. We happened to catch her alone, and broke the news about Daddy. She immediately teared up, and informed Mom and I that it was also the anniversary day of her husband’s passing. Another thread of our lives binding us together even more.

Every year on 30 July, *A* always takes a moment to let me know she is thinking of me. Used to be thinking of me and Mom, until a year ago when we suddenly lost Mom too. *A*’s compassion is beyond explaining, and I can never express the gratitude I hold for this extraordinary woman.

Yes, I am blessed to have *A* in my life still. And I will always be thankful for her, and although a not so happy situation brought us togther, I never doubt that we were not meant to cross paths. No, it was meant to be.

*A*, again thank you for your uplifting message. It is because of friends like you that make ife so fantastic.

Happy Saturday, everyone. May your day be as blessed as mine has been.

Until next time….

Thank You and Sports

Hello Crafty Friends,

As I sit here watching this past year’s Rose Bowl game where my beloved Dawgs played the Sooners, I am so excited that college football is on the horizon. Yay!  I have missed it.  NASCAR is great and all, but with the upcoming season of fall, football is a must for this girl!

Yesterday we had our huge oaks trimmed and a pine tree removed from the property. The company that we contracted to do the work arrive promptly, with enough crews to tackle all trees and worked all day. They even went above and beyond their primary duties with assisting moving the two vehicles that we could not get started in the morning, as well as cleanng up extra leaves and limbs/twigs. etc. The guys were all very professional, polite, and very much hard working. I am pleased with the job they did, and to show my thanks, I created a quick thank card to send the main office.

I used an older AT stamp we have called Stay Wild. However before I stamped the iamge, I masked off an oval on some Whip Cream cardstock and using our large daubers, begin applying Limeade Splash and Electric Lime inks for the ground, blending in illuisons of hills/ depth by using a scrap piece of paper cut with a few round edges. I then used Lovely Blue and Pool Play to create the sky color. Once I was happy with the blending, I watered down a bit of Journey Gesso and lightly made some clouds in the sky using the Slanted/ angled paint brush. Before removing the mask, I stamped Stay Wild AT in Black Licorice, removing ink off the deer on stamp, as to only get the trees. Once stamped, I removed the mask, added some Journey twine on the side, along with a matching Button Up accent button. I then used the Thanks So Much sentiment from the Letterboard Sentiments stamp set, and stamped in Black Licorice. I rounded the corners and applied panel to a top folding card base of Limeade Splash. I really like how this one came out in the end. Probably one of my most recent favorites. Thankssomuch

And for our neighbors who so genorously allowed us to park in their driveway while our trees were being trimmed,  I created another thank you card. This one also uses an older but wonderful set called Dandelion Wishes and the Vintage Notes background stamp. Sentiment is from the new AT set called Many Thanks. I used two new colors from the Good Life collection as well- Peaches and Cream and Chambray Shirt. Along with the cardstock and ink colors, I also used Peaches and Cream Liquid Color and Silk. Chambray Shirt Satin Ribbon and Meadow Pearls were used to embellish this card. I cut the 3 panels from Journey Rectangles dies, and layed on top of an embossed panel using the Inspire embossing folder (adding another dimenion of texture to this card). Images were stamped on Buttercream cardstock.  I like this one as well… however the one above is surely my favorite today.

I am hand delivering the second card, which is why I did not mind using the satin ribbon for a bow.

Thanks for stopping by. Please leave a comment telling me which card you liked. And if you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe to my blog.

All products used in today’s cards can be ordered at

Have a famtastic evening, and happy crafting….. I am off to watch my Dawgs beat the Sooners again. ( Okay- so it’s a rewatch game… but I loved how Georgia came back from behind to win in OT at that!)

Sometimes you just want….

to give up, however you keep on anyhow. I don’t follow the daily stats of my site, or even the weekly as I know that having a huge following is not what I am after. So what am I wanting then? I guess it is simply to have a group of people who share the same passion for crafting, photography, and life as I do. People who believe that life is better through sharing our strengths with one another. People who lift one another up; encourage to be the best person we can be; who are there to help you when you can’t seem to find your mojo at the time; etc.  It’s not easy falling victim to the *I only had one visitor this week* attitude at times though.  But I will not give up. You know why?   Because I love what I do, and I know I am capable of sharing my passion with others. 🙂   It’s been a month, and I have managed to blog twce a week as I said I would.  That in itself is a step in the right direction. I know I need better content, and am working on that. Just had to get in the habit of blogging the two days a week I said I would. So, I am doing all right. Would you not think so too? I am not feeling sorry for myself. No, instead this is a self encouragement reminder that I can do this, and will do it! Therefore, more fun ahead!

Thank you for allowing me a moment to say these words….. 🙂
Have a beautiful day!!

Busy… Busy… Busy!!!

Hello Crafty Friends and new friends….. Surprise Post!

How has your weekend been? Mine has been quite busy. I spent yesterday at home cleaning, and today at the other house finally getting my craft supplies unpacked. Well- some anyhow. Baby steps. LoL It actually felt great to have several boxes unpacked and out of the way!! I won’t be back over there until Tuesday, so that gives me a day to revive the energy needed to accomplish the organization ahead. Today I also went through MOST of my FSJ stamps, and separated the retired from current from duplicate. Yes, I have some duplicates. A few were intentional and others I have to admit I ordered without checking my list. Haven’t many of us done just that? I know I am NOT alone here!  Come on; admit it. No one here is judging you. It’s a judge free zone 🙂

Later this week or even next week, I will start sorting through my retired sets and see which ones I can part with. Just not sure if I am going to offer them for sale online or locally only. I still have to decide. I am having a yard sale in September after we get back from our cruise. Maybe I will wait until then and see if I can sell them then.

I just know that at the moment, my crafty space looks like a tornado whipped in and tossed everything about before exiting as quickly as it popped in. LoL

Until next time… happy crafting….

Please leave a comment and let me know how your crafty space looks. I bet many are neat and tidy compared to mine at the moment. 🙂

Flower Swirls and NO AC Still

It has been a very warm few days here on the Gulf Coast of Central Florida. Very humid or muggy at times, however NOT a good time for the AC to act up. Mike and Nathan (second son) thought they had figured out the issue. Yeah- not so. Luckily it hasn’t really been all too unbearable. And I was able to escape to the other house for a few. The other house is where Mike has his home office and I have my crafty space. Nathan and his friend then rent the house from us. So we have access pretty much whenever. It works for us. So as I was saying- day 4 and no AC and it begins to put a damper on my energy level. However, I am refusing to allow that to interfere with my goals. 🙂
So now on to the all occasion card I made today. I was sorting through my stamp sets, trying to get things unpacked and into a workable place, when I came across this one stamp and die set. It has never been one of my favorites. I think I have used it probably one time, and then it was pushed to the back of the storage container to be forgotten.  I knew I wanted to use a printed paper from our *Through the Years* 12×12 paper pack, and ironically, there happens to be a sheet that coordinates perfectly with this set- Flower Swirls. (link takes you to the bundle page)

Today’s card above was supposed to be a birthday card for a young lady who is turning the sweet age of 100 next month, however the further I went with this card, the less it looked like a birthday card. I liked it though, and did not want to throw out what I had done, or even start over. I changed it from a birthday card to an all occasion card, leaving it without a sentiment.

I started with a piece of Sweet Berry cardstock ( 4.25″ x 11″ ) and scored at 5.5″ creating a top fold card. I then adhered a piece of whip cream cardstock ( 4″ x 5.25″ ) to inside to create a space to write a personal message.

Next I cut the foral paper from Through the Years paper pack down to a panel that was about 1/8″ smaller than the Sweet Berry card base. Using the Journey Rectangle Long die set ( second largest cutting and piercing dies), I cut a panel from Limeade Splash cardstock, and adhered to the left side of the floral print. Once that panel was adhered to the Sweet Berry card base, I set it aside to begin working on the flowers and leaves.

I decided that instead of coloring the images in the usual ways, I would instead go another route. I grabbed my Journey Gel Press, brayer, and some Liquid Colors. I went with Rustic Rose and Watermelon Fusion for the flowers. For the leaves- Limeade Splash. I started with the 2 pinks, dropping a few drops onto the press and then lightly brayering them before pressing the whip cream cardstock into the liquid color to pick them up. Set that aside and using the Limeade Splash Liquid Color, I repeated the steps, but this time using a scrap piece of Tin Pail card stock. To help ensure they were dry, I use my heat gun and dried them.

Now I was uncertain how I wanted to stamp the images. In the end, I stamped them all in Clear Pigment ink and then heat embossed with Black embossing powder. I used the matching die set to cut them all out.  I actually used all images in the set.

Before I adhered the flowers and leaves to the card front, I used a small piece of washi tape from the Classic Elegance set on the lower portion of the Limeade Splash rectangle. Then I payed around with the layout of the flowers, leaves, and smaller buds until I found a design I liked. I popped up an extra flower onto a larger one for more dimension. Once I liked the design, I glued the leaves down flat, popped up the flowers, and then tucked in the buds by gluing them into place.

I finished up the card by sprinkling Silver and Whip Cream Silks over the entire panel. Then lightly brushed on some Journey Glaze onto the flowers before dusting them with some Journey Sparkle Dust. To compete the card, I added some green Rainbow drops to the card.

Although this set is not a favorite of mine, I can see many other uses for it, and will challenge myself to do so later.

Now off to bed, so tomorrow I can begin afresh and try to clean up with no AC. HaHa

Hope you enjoyed today’s card. Thanks for coming by to visit.

Most definitely was Friday the 13th!

Hello dear Crafty Friends and friends to be,

Today, or should I say yesterday at this point, was a strange day indeed. Normally I do not fall victim to all the hub bub about it being Friday the 13th. However, it sure ended up *being one of those days*!!

Started as it usually does- alarm going off- even though one of us is already awake- at 0530. Mike left for work little before 0630, forgetting to take the trash to the curb for TRASH DAY. I laid in bed a while longer with the one cat and dog before pulling myself from beneath my comfortable spot under the covers, and headed to the shower. SO far- all is good. Was showered, dressed, and ready to head to my nail appt well before I needed to be. (I should have went Thursday as originally planned.) That went smoothly. It wasn’t until after I ran a couple errands and had lunch that things started to shift some for this day.

As I was in the bathroom doing my hair, I felt like it was getting a tad bit warm in there. Checked the AC setting and it was set at 77 but was reading 79. Red flag goes up! I turn off AC for a bit, trying to reset system as I have always done before. Go back to working on my hair; however it was getting even warmer. So I turn AC back on, and attempted to lower the temperature. I let Mike know, who is already stressed over the pain he was experiencing with his back again at work. (Long story for another day if you do not know the back story on his back). I finish adding the color to my hair, and then preceded to turn AC off once again. No need to have on if not working. Now, in Florida in mid- July. this could be a very bad outcome. Lucky for us, we have two huge oak trees that shadow the house, so it was not as bad as it seems in here. Yet as day settled into late afternoon/ early evening, it did begin to get warmer, hitting 84 by 1800. Yeah- warm if you think about it. We went to dinner- to cool off. 🙂 Anyhow- the AC is still not functioning as it should, and Mike will look at it after he gets off of work again today. Meanwhile, I am glad to be heading to Apollo  Beach for the day to spend it with friends. We have fans in every room, so the house will stay where it is, keeping the animals comfy. (plus we have tiled floors, and they all love to lay on them.)

A few other small things happened on this awesome Friday the 13th, but I won’t bore you with them. I was so busy dealing with the AC and all, that I completely forgot to set my blog post for you. And I did not want to disappoint. I do not have a project to share with you, but instead a video from our home office or as we call it- the Journey Station.  This video talks about the making of our new INSPIRATION BOOK and CATALOG 2018-19/ (You can get your own here. Or you can look at the online flip book version here. )
Enjoy this video, and I will be back next week with some more crafty goodness for you all!

Happy 10th Anniversary!

Today’s post is not about crafts but about the man who encourages me, enables my habit, and just accepts that he has lost a room so I can store my paper in it. LoL  I am talking about my husband.  I am so lucky to have married my best friend ten years ago today. Has it always been peaches and cream? Oh no!  There have been times when we talked about throwing the towel in and going our own ways. BUT… we didn’t. Instead we found a way to work through the differences which only strengthened our relationship more.  Mike has been my rock when I needed him to be; has allowed me to vent as needed; but most important, Mike has loved me when I thought I could not love myself. He has accepted me at my best and always loved me at my worst. I could not have picked a better life partner than this man. I am forever grateful that our paths kept passing ever since high school (yes, we even went to the same high school, however ran in different circles). Mike, I loved you the day we married, but I love you even more today.  May we always be as blessed as we have been. Through it all- you are my one and only.  Happy Anniversary, Handsome.
