Happy Friday!

Hello Crafty Friends,

I have taken a few days away from social media ( other than a couple comments here or there ) to re-energize myself. I sometimes find it very peaceful as well as sanity saving to unplug and just enjoy the blessings that surround me.  Anyhow, although I was silent online, I did take time to complete a Journey Coach Color Challenge.  It is a private group for us Journey Coaches, and we have monthly color challenges. Since the group is fairly new, the challenges to get us started are simple and easy.  My kind of challenge these days. LoL Anyhow, to go along with August’s promotion of select mixed media products being 20% off, we were encouraged to used 2,3, or 4 colors of paint, or use pan pastels, to create a project that we are working on.  I knew I wanted to do a canvas but was unsure until I sat down at my desk.

I first started by treating my canvas with some Journey Gesso, and once it dried, I brushed on Cool Pool and Beach Ball paint to make a background of streaky blues.

Once that was dried, I pondered over what to do, add, etc. I knew I wanted to create something whimsical and after going through my stash of current products, I decided to go with a Christmas theme. I grabbed my Winter Wonderland stencil, Journey Modeling Paste, and a spatula, and then carefully applied the paste over the stencil to create snowflakes on my background. Before it had time to dry completely, I sprinkled a few Journey Silver Shavings on the wet paste, as well as sprayed a light coat of Silver Splash over it all to give it a winter shadow. (Sadly my phone died and I did not have my charger or a camera with me at the other house that day, so I did not get step by step photos during the process.)

As the paste dried, I pulled out the Advent Buttons I had in my stash, and played around creating a fun Christmas tree. Wish I had more than one set at this point. I would have loved a more dimensional effect for my tree. Before I added the tree, I placed some Journey Thread across the canvas and glued into place with a light coat of glaze. Before the glaze could dry I used a scrap piece of Corrugated Cardstock for the tree truck. At this point, I adhered the buttons to the canvas and painted them with gesso, before applying a blend of Green Olive and Limeade Splash. , allowing a tad bit of the original Advent Buttons to show through. I added a layer of Journey Glaze to seal the buttons and lightly dusted with some more Silver Shavings.  I then adhered some Bloom Benefit (one of the free products you can pick when you have an order of $75 or more) sequins to use as ornaments. Added a few Cut Rhinestones as well. I then free-hand cut some *presents* and added Perfect Bows on two and Journey Thread on one. I dusted one of the gifts with some Sparkle Dust, added the Merry Christmas paper clips from the Merry Clips accents, and a start cut from Brushed Silver Cardstock using the Star-dom cutting and piercing dies.

Overall, it was a whimsical tree, and I believe it will look cute in the guest bathroom once I use a sealer to seal the canvas.

Hope you enjoy this project too. For more information, feel free to contact me. 🙂

Thanks for popping in. I will be back next week with another fun project.

Until then..happy crafting!

Thank You and Sports

Hello Crafty Friends,

As I sit here watching this past year’s Rose Bowl game where my beloved Dawgs played the Sooners, I am so excited that college football is on the horizon. Yay!  I have missed it.  NASCAR is great and all, but with the upcoming season of fall, football is a must for this girl!

Yesterday we had our huge oaks trimmed and a pine tree removed from the property. The company that we contracted to do the work arrive promptly, with enough crews to tackle all trees and worked all day. They even went above and beyond their primary duties with assisting moving the two vehicles that we could not get started in the morning, as well as cleanng up extra leaves and limbs/twigs. etc. The guys were all very professional, polite, and very much hard working. I am pleased with the job they did, and to show my thanks, I created a quick thank card to send the main office.

I used an older AT stamp we have called Stay Wild. However before I stamped the iamge, I masked off an oval on some Whip Cream cardstock and using our large daubers, begin applying Limeade Splash and Electric Lime inks for the ground, blending in illuisons of hills/ depth by using a scrap piece of paper cut with a few round edges. I then used Lovely Blue and Pool Play to create the sky color. Once I was happy with the blending, I watered down a bit of Journey Gesso and lightly made some clouds in the sky using the Slanted/ angled paint brush. Before removing the mask, I stamped Stay Wild AT in Black Licorice, removing ink off the deer on stamp, as to only get the trees. Once stamped, I removed the mask, added some Journey twine on the side, along with a matching Button Up accent button. I then used the Thanks So Much sentiment from the Letterboard Sentiments stamp set, and stamped in Black Licorice. I rounded the corners and applied panel to a top folding card base of Limeade Splash. I really like how this one came out in the end. Probably one of my most recent favorites. Thankssomuch

And for our neighbors who so genorously allowed us to park in their driveway while our trees were being trimmed,  I created another thank you card. This one also uses an older but wonderful set called Dandelion Wishes and the Vintage Notes background stamp. Sentiment is from the new AT set called Many Thanks. I used two new colors from the Good Life collection as well- Peaches and Cream and Chambray Shirt. Along with the cardstock and ink colors, I also used Peaches and Cream Liquid Color and Silk. Chambray Shirt Satin Ribbon and Meadow Pearls were used to embellish this card. I cut the 3 panels from Journey Rectangles dies, and layed on top of an embossed panel using the Inspire embossing folder (adding another dimenion of texture to this card). Images were stamped on Buttercream cardstock.  I like this one as well… however the one above is surely my favorite today.

I am hand delivering the second card, which is why I did not mind using the satin ribbon for a bow.

Thanks for stopping by. Please leave a comment telling me which card you liked. And if you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe to my blog.

All products used in today’s cards can be ordered at FunStampersJourney.com/KeniLeni

Have a famtastic evening, and happy crafting….. I am off to watch my Dawgs beat the Sooners again. ( Okay- so it’s a rewatch game… but I loved how Georgia came back from behind to win in OT at that!)
